Bludvera are absolutely blinding, great live show and since I had the pleasure of working with the lads around 4 years ago they have grown into a powerful unit that have gathered quite a following right across the UK, the band have a number of high profile achievements under their belt including Bloodstock, supporting Evile, Festival slots and this week they are playing at Hamerfest 5.
We managed to chat to the Scott before had to catch up and get him to introduce the band to the fine people of Southport.
WHATS THE NAME OF YOUR BAND, AND WHAT ARE YOUR NAMES AND JOBS IN THE BAND?
Bludvera. Scott - Vocals, Patto - Guitar, Joey - Guitar, Lui - Bass and Baz on drums.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER, AND HOW DID YOU START?
We've been together for five years and it started as a group of friends getting together writing Thrash Metal. Things got a little bit more serious, people have come and gone and we feel like the lineup at the moment is the strongest it's ever been.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM THE REST?
I'd just simply say the quality of the music. Things are getting a bit more complicated and well thought of.
WHO ARE YOUR MAIN INFLUENCES MUSICALLY?
Obviously bands which got us into Metal like Megadeth & Slayer but I'd like to name drop a few bands which have helped shape us; Artillery, Destruction, Voivod, Sodom and Toxik to name a few. The list could go on. Check our page to see more.
WHAT ARE YOUR SONGS MOSTLY ABOUT?
With our EP release Terrorform it was kind of a semi-concept release with most of the songs relating to; the world, politics, corruption and how the earth is changing for the worst. Hense 'Terrorform' being a play on words meaning the opposite of "Terraform".
WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG THAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN?
Me personally (Scott), I'd say 'Voyage Beyond the System'.
Check out their new full EP Here!!!!!
IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN ONE WORD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Debonair
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENT / GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT AS A BAND SO FAR?
Supporting some great bands, selling CDs around the world, playing Bloodstock & Hammerfest and also meeting some great musicians and people along the way.
WHATS NEXT FOR YOU GUYS?
We write more, do better, get more recognition and just keep going. The possibilities are endless.
WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOU TO HEAR MORE? FACEBOOK YOUTUBE WEBSITE ETC.
You can check us out on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/bludvera). You can search for some live material/tracks on youtube by typing our name and our website is simply bludvera.com but it's under construction at the moment so be patient.
HOW DO YOU RATE YOUR LOCAL SCENE AT THE MOMENT?
Mediocre. There's lots of great bands but not enough people going out and enjoying live music. People should just go "Oh, I have a fiver and there's nothing to do. I'll go to a gig, see who's there and who knows... maybe something good will happen. If not then.. maybe next time".
WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO CHANGE/ IMPROVE IT?
There needs to be more promotion. We put a show on the other month and got over 100 attendees in a small venue and that's great for Liverpool. People need to stop thinking about money and just promote the hell out of gigs. We need to focus on our own scene before we start doing gigs full of out of town bands. I love to see bands from other cities but at the moment there's lack of opportunities here. Maybe the same bands on the same bills is boring but having a gig once a month and promoting it like crazy might be a good idea. Overall people should just go out and enjoy it more. Support your local Metal bands!
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON EVENTS LIKE THESE- WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MORE?
Definitely. Anything which will benefit the local bands. If there's a great turnout that's even better. Thanks.
DO YOU THINK THAT THERE IS A LACK OF ORIGINALITY OR A WILLINGNESS TO PUSH BOUNDERYS IN METAL AS A GENRE?
Definitely. People are afraid to push boundaries as in this day and age everything is labelled under a genre. Sometimes mixing things up is a good idea and sometimes it's a band idea. Everything in my opinion is a big gamble. In some genres of Metal there's nothing really you can do to be original (e.g. Thrash Metal). We've had lots and lots of good feedback for our last release but the very few negative feedbacks were not bad at all they just stated that the originality wasn't there but the ideas were. That's why with our next release we're going to take a much bigger risk. If you want to be original, I guess the only way is to come up with something unique (which of course is hard or near impossible in some circumstances) or explore something which wasn't explored enough back in the day and work on that.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST WORRY YOU GUYS FACE AS A BAND?
Not being able to afford to produce merchandise, record and release things on time. We've missed a lot of great opportunities to sell t-shirts and get our stuff out there and it was all down to not having the money in the exact period of time. Apart from that... members having enough and leaving but right now that's not a problem.
IF YOU COULD SUPPORT ANY BAND, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Metallica duh. Nothing to do with the music but imagine how many people you'll play to. Being in a Metal band too, I can't exactly pick Rod Stewart or Bruce Springsteen can I?
WHO WOULD WIN- GANDALF OR DARTH VADER?
I'm a fan of both Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. The winner is Vader.
FINALLY- WHY SHOULD PEOPLE COME AND SEE YOU PLAY?
We're fast, aggressive, fun and we like to have a good time and if you give us a chance, I guarantee you'll have a good time as well. Come check us out at Southport Metal Fest!
- Scott, Vocalist of Bludvera.
