Music festival In Southport? Why?

“Southport Metal Fest” was started in 2012 as a response to a lack of heavy music in the resort. The event started out a few years previously, as club nights which were organised by North West metal band Sa-Da-Ko. The events were generally themed, and regularly drew hundreds of of metal hungry fans to the resort.

Last year the team hosted an all day event to showcase breaking bands from around the North West and received a staggering amount of support from both the fans and bands involved, so much so that we felt the pressure to host a whole weekend of what we feel represents the UK metal scene at the moment.

Southport lies on the coast just 20 miles north of Liverpool and is a traditional Victorian seaside town – but with a contemporary twist. It combines beautiful beaches, family attractions such as theme parks and arcades and the UK’s oldest iron pier a superb choice of restaurants, and a varied range of accommodation from 4-star hotels and boutique guest houses, right to bed and breakfasts and nearby camp-sites. Add to this a vibrant events programme and a great night-life and you’ll never be short of something to do.

This year's event sees a move to a larger establishment at a prime location in the town, close to accommodation and all amenity’s, has gained sponsorship in the form of Roarrock, and with more than 28 bands over 2 days, (25th and 26th of May) This is the best place to see regional unsigned UK metal at its rawest, purest and where it belongs... on the stage!

With more bands still to be announced, be amongst the first to find out what’s happening, share your ideas and suggestions, and be a part of what is truly a festival by the fans, for the fans at http://ukmetal.blogspot.co.uk/

Head Thirteen - Now with added groove!

Head13 are headed to Southport on the bank holiday to add a hard groove to the proceedings, for fans of early One Minute Silence, Stuck Mojo and Downset. Formed in 2011 this 4 piece are already achieving air play on several radio stations and looking to push their hard grooves even further with the release of their album and booking across the North West.

I've been impressed with bands hard work ethic and commitment to supporting Uk metal, these guys promise a pounding set with knock out blows.

"Head 13 are a metal band from the Northwest of the UK. Hardworking, down-to-earth, realistic and firmly of the belief that megalomaniac world domination is an inevitable conclusion to the year, Head 13 also have a sense of humour, which helps when you take all this music stuff extremely seriously."

Renegade State join Southport Metal Fest Line up

We are pleased to announce that Southport/Liverpool band state are joining the line up in May for Southport Metal Fest.

The lads had a relatively early slot last year and have been going from strength to strength ever since. formed in 2011 the lads have recorded their finest EP and secured slots around the North West.

In their own words:

"Renegade State are a new upcoming metal band that are about to take the metal scene by storm! We plan to smash all your windows and fuck you up in the pit!"
"If we don't see you getting crazy. We'll personally get crazy and fuck you up!"

Liverpool Bloodstock Winners Join Southport Metal fest

When you think of a great metal band you think of wailing guitars, pounding grooves tight musicianship and a great show.

Scare Tactics provide every essence of this and have long been one of Liverpool’s favorite bands allowing them to play various festivals including last year’s Bloodstock festival. Scare tactics intend to bring the groove to Southport Metal Fest,

Here’s how the band describe themselves: “Scare Tactics, a band created from the ashes of 3 of Liverpool's more popular underground metal bands. The union of 4 like minded individuals who play and write music for the sheer love if it.” “The Scare Tactics 'sound' has evolved from rules as written metal to a blend of power, groove and melody.

Influences ranging from Pantera to Alice in Chains creates a blend of metal that is encircles nearly every genre and no genre at the same time.” “Don't be afraid!”

Preston's Deathtrip confirmed for Southport Metal Fest 2013

Deathtrip are one of the best new bands from the Preston, their pounding riffs and aggressive grooves are matched only by Fishers (vocals) stage presence.
After a successful year in 2012 and a release of their 2nd cd towards the end of last year, Deathtrip are coming to Southport with 100% focus and razor sharp set that will leave you begging for more.
These guys absolutely kicked ass the last time they were in Southport and cannot be missed in May. See you in the pit!

In their own words they say:

“Deathtrip are a band that are as handsome as they are muscular. Being immortal super beings, the band were poised to release the greatest metal album in history, however, an unfortunate accident left the only copy of said album destroyed and the band with severe brain damage, resulting in the horrors seen before you today."

"Gaining positive reviews for their intense and unbelievably sexual live performances in 2012, the band are now promoting their first full length album - ruinous -  released at the end of october 2012,
prepare to be ruined!!! (Or something equally witty relating to the band/album title).
